Kurt Russell plays MACREADY in:
|

This movie kicks in right from the start, a team of researchers are holed up in an Antarctic base when a
helicopter turns up outside chasing a dog, everyone runs outside to see what's going on and witness one of the
occupants of the chopper get out and chase the dog shooting at it. he also drops a grenade that blows his mate
and the chopper to pieces, still chasing the dog he is shot by one of the researchers, and the dog joins the
group....
As it turns out the guys in the chopper were from a Norwegian research team and were chasing the dog because
it was an alien mimicking a dog that they dug out of the ice, and they couldn't explain this to the American team
because of the language difference. No one suspects anything out of the ordinary about the dog, as the alien
mimics it perfectly, however when the dog handler of the team puts the dog in the kennels with normal dogs, the
movie kicks off big time, as one alien rips out of the body of the dog and escapes into the compound, while the
resultant mess left over contains another alien that the team burn to death with a flamethrower!
After performing an autopsy the team realize that the alien is in fact mimicking living things and then realize that
it may have taken over someone from within the group. Kurt Russell plays lead and general tough guy who in the
end knows the only way to be sure everyone is who they say they are is to take a blood test. That's where the
tension of the movie really hits home, no one knows who may be infected as the alien replicates them perfectly.
The scenes of the alien taking over the researchers are amazing and include some great special effects (respect
Rob Bottin) but again it has to be said, the "Is he, isn't he" situation has you on the edge of your seat and
guessing all the way through until only two of the team are left and even then you still don't know if they are
who they think they are!
Tense, creepy, claustrophobic with great acting and special effects, this is what films are about, how the hell this
bombed at the box office is beyond me, this is one awesome movie and with all the extras HAS to be bought by
any horror fan
