Ok so I have a Gans, The Krote with a Neuspotter head and some armament in the
way of rockets. But I'm not ready to start on it yet.. I DON'T have a
Konigs Krote, the
super armed Krote version with a Neuspotter head melded into it- I just could not
afford to get one when they were available. So I have a lot of parts, and a LOT of
putty. So I'm thinking what is good for the Goose (Gans) is good for the Gander
(Gansrich), a bigger Gans, but not nearly as big as the Konigs Krote. The
body
started as a mod for another project that just did not work. I started the head thinking
it would go well on a hover body that I have been trying to figure out a use for. After
looking at it I started thinking well..........h'mmmm.....what about using the body I
started and beef up the legs?
After feedback I beefed up the legs, especially the lower part. I added a piston as
well to strengthen the attachment point to the feet. I think it does help balance it out
overall. The legs could probably use some more at the ankle, but without a tear out
and rebuild I am not sure how to do more. I think it looks better, and will leave it for
now.
Added a few more pieces to the legs and also widened the feet. Thin sheet
plastic was glued in a large square shape on the bottom, then a few thin strips
laminated on the outer edge to build up the thickness to match the original part,
then the whole thing trimmed, sanded, strengthening strip added and the new
parts surfaced with Mr Surfacer 500. I like the new wide, paddle-foot look it
gives. Ties in with the Goose/Gander and also adds some stability. Compare it
with the pic of the Krote to get an idea of what was added. A little more work
was also done on the body and the engine area, not much, just some fiddly bits
and the large hoses, I'll add some small wiring as well.
OK, today's update. I followed the great feedback and added the armor add-ons. I did
use ping pong balls and surprisingly they were no problem. Easy to cut, sand and glue.
I think I got lucky with the brand. Although they do smell like pine and lime when you
sand them. Actually not too bad. While adding the front armor, I decided to throw in a
little on the back elbow joint as well. I also added a few greeblies to the head to bust it
up a little. Please ignore the dust and scratches on the head, they will be fixed...
8-17-07 - I decided the armor on the back was lame, so I made some new  using more
ping pong balls. Also added more paneling and small details on the head and body, after
a final smooth sanding I guess it's ready for some paint.
