This started as the stock figure that
comes with the SASF, but the head,
arms, hands and the shoes have been
replaced to give it crisper more lifelike
detail. Just the new shoes and head
would have been a big improvment
The head is from
Baraca. Hobbylink
Japan carries
them. I may add a
leather type 'flying'
cap to him.
This is a closer pic so that
you can see how the body
has been detailed. There
is still some dust on the
figure left over from the
scraping process to define
the shirt line, the belt and
the collar. New buttons
have been added made
from a punch and die set.
With a little brushing, and
a quick wipe with liquid
cement all these details
will blend better, but allow
the figure to 'pop' a little
more.
The new shoes were cut from the Tamiya tire changing
set, as was the right arm at the elbow. The shoes are
detailed by giving them a careful scrape to bring out
detail, and then the real work, adding new soles and a
heel. It's not really that hard. some plastic sheets are
glued to the bottom and when dry the edges cut, sanded
to the right contours and a heel sanded in to give them
some definition like military boots. I think that just this
change makes a real 'scale look' difference compared to
the supplied feet. The socks are epoxy putty. I have a
few more sets that I'm going to cast so I don't have to
make them over and over and can add them to
armatures to make some mechanics and other officer
figures. Next up is also some crates and jerry
cans...whoo hoo!
